The VisArts Center in Rockville, MD is a super-cool, modern venue that I got to decorate for the first time. Artist studios and gallery exhibitions welcome guests into a modern ballroom with floor to ceiling windows. My favorite part was the rooftop ceremony site overlooking Rockville Town Center. I loved bringing the soft touch of an all-greenery arch to this modern, “concrete jungle” rooftop.
Nicole wanted a garden style plum and lavender bouquet, with matching ribbon tails. For this bouquet, I used lavender stock, spray roses, lisianthus, limonium, roses and zinnias. I also used plum larkspur, and white veronica and mums. My favorite touch might have been the steel grey roses! Plus, I can never get enough custom ribbon tails, and this bouquet was no exception!
Of course, I love talking about the bouquet-it’s usually the show-stopper. But there are other fun elements to the bridal party and I was lucky enough to get a few “glamour shots” of the floral cuffs and boutonnieres that I created for the bridal party. This corsage was created on a brass wrist cuff. I like this method best because it is a modern take on the traditional old bundle of flowers attached to a floppy elastic band. This cuff had lavender spray roses, white gomphrenia, limonium, and larkspur blossoms. The boutonniere uses matching elements and was wrapped in a light grey ribbon.
I love this shot of the centerpieces, not only because it’s a gorgeous shot of my designs, but it also highlights those floor to ceiling windows of the ballroom. I used a frosted silver footed bowl, and filled it with flowers to match Nicole’s bouquet with a few salvia and purple gomphrenia flying high above! The second centerpiece design was a romantic white lantern with flowers spilling out of all sides!
Can we talk about this amazing cake?? I love the dripping purple icing over the naked cake! Fresh flowers are always the perfect finishing touch!
One thing that makes designing a wedding easier is having amazing product. This wedding was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with one of my favorite local flower farmers, Julianne, of Petal Patch Flower Farm. The salvia, gomphrenia and zinnias came from her wonderful farm! I am super grateful to have such amazing product available to me here in Frederick, MD.
Here are some more of my favorite images from this beautiful day!
