Obviously the pièce de résistance of this wedding was the two chandeliers hanging over the dance floor. This classic, blue and white hydrangea wedding at Decatur House was a dream come true for a floral designer wanting to stretch her wings. Emily had a vision of walking down the aisle under the chandeliers, with the ceremony space eventually turning into the dance floor.
The bridal party carried classic, but sophisticated round bouquets in blue and white, using hydrangea, roses and delphinium. The bouquets were designed to pop from the bridesmaid’s pale blue dresses.

The tables were dressed with sweet blue and white floral print linens. The long tables were decorated with long and low arrangements of hydrangeas, roses and delphinium, combined with clear votives and vases to hold the bouquets.

Last but not least, the chandelier. These were assembled mostly onsite on 12ft ladders! One thing I have added to my inventory over the years is a few types of quality silk flowers. One reason is that certain flowers don’t hold up well in an installation, and the second is that hydrangeas, in particular, are not available (to me) all year round, due to my use of American Grown Flowers. I’ve learned that silk hydrangeas work great for large installations, when paired with fresh florals and greens. That’s exactly what we did here. We used a base of fresh greenery, inserted silk hydrangeas and wisteria, and added fresh hanging greens, and roses.

Here are a few more of my favorites from this classic blue and white hydrangea wedding.

I’m always so grateful to the vendors that make my work possible, particularly the MD flower farms that I get to support.
