Catharine and Matt wanted an intimate & romantic microwedding at Iron Gate Restaurant Washington DC. They chose a beautiful restaurant with a little outdoor terrace, perfect for a table for 20 to be set up following their ceremony.
Catharine wore two dresses, one that was an altered version of her mother’s wedding dress – look at all that beautiful lace! Her second dress was a shorter, off the shoulder “party dress”, which showed of her fun and casual personality. Her bouquet was full of several different types of roses and spray roses, and eucalyptus foliage.
“We knew we wanted a beautiful
floral backdrop for our vows
and then an extra special, “secret
garden,” romantic vibe for our
intimate wedding.” – Catharine
For this wedding, I got to flower a sweet little flower girl AND a flower dog!! Enter one of the first flower wands of the season (can we make this a thing?? More flower wands please!!)
For the ceremony, we simply added some greenery to an existing wisteria trellis that was *just* starting to bloom on the terrace, and added a few more flowers to make it look like they grew there (it was late April – not many flowers blooming in DC yet!)
“seeing the “secret garden” and
my husband in front of the
cascading curtain of roses,
ivy, and wisteria, was magical”
– Catharine
Take a look at this gorgeous, intimate table, set for just 20 of the couple’s closest family and friends. We used a collection of bud vases and candles so that plates could be passed, family-style. I love the romantic touch of the lace, and the dusty blue of the glasses! We used butterfly ranunculus, daffodils, and garden roses in peach and pink tones.
